Nolan & Auerbach, P.A. Partners Kenneth Nolan and Marcella Auerbach presented at the Eleventh Annual Taxpayers Against Fraud Education Fund (TAFEF) Conference in Washington, D.C. on September 13, 2011. Mr. Nolan joined other leading qui tam and government attorneys during a panel discussion titled, “Emerging Issues of Healthcare Fraud.” Ms. Auerbach presented during a session titled, “An Overview of Multi-Relator and Co-Counsel Arrangements.” The Annual TAFEF Conference is the country’s largest conference dedicated to qui tam enforcement.

Nolan & Auerbach, P.A. Founding Partner Kenneth Nolan conducted a live May 5, 2011, PharmaManufacturing.com webcast titled, “cGMP Compliance and Pharma Whistleblowing Cases.” Mr. Nolan educated a national audience about the cGMP regulations and sources of potential False Claims Act vulnerabilities for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Mr. Nolan has authored a book chapter on the subject, and is considered a leading expert on cGMP violations. Additional information is available here.

Nolan & Auerbach, P.A. Managing Partner Marcella Auerbach spoke at the University of Miami 2011 Law Review Symposium on Friday February 18, 2011. Ms. Auerbach discussed the topic of health care fraud during the opening panel discussion. She was joined in her healthcare fraud panel by David Hyman, Richard W. and Marie L. Corman Professor of Law at University of Illinois College of Law, Joan Krause, Professor of Law at University of North Carolina School of Law, and Eric Bustillo, former Assistant U.S. Attorney and current Regional Director of the Miami Office of the Securities & Exchange Commission. Panelists spoke on a range of topics, from healthcare fraud to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, to the criminalization of corporate behavior. Other presenters included keynote speaker Robert S. Bennett, co-chair of White Collar at Hogan Lovells, Professor John Coates of Harvard Law, Professor Vic Khanna of Michigan Law, and Professor Jennifer Arlen of NYU Law.

Nolan & Auerbach, P.A. Partner Joseph E. B. “Jeb” White kicked off the 2011 session of the Knowledge Congress by discussing the role of whistleblowers in uncovering corporate fraud. This discussion, “Understanding the Whistleblower’s Role in Corporate Fraud,” was broadcasted live via a national webcast on Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Mr. White was joined by other leading corporate fraud experts, including National Whistleblower Center Director Stephen Kohn, Deloitte Financial Advisory Services Senior Manager Mohammed Ahmed, and Eric Sitarchuk, Chair of the White Collar Practice at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP. Partner Jeb White opened the Tenth Annual Taxpayers Against Fraud Education Fund Conference by teaching the session entitled, “The New & Improved False Claims Act: Practicalities & Realities.” This session will be held on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. Mr. White was joined by Department of Justice Deputy Director Dan Anderson.

Nolan & Auerbach, P.A. Partner Jeb White was a guest lecturer during the opening session of the George Washington University Healthcare Corporate Compliance Program. This one-of-a-kind program provided a comprehensive corporate compliance education for current or aspiring corporate compliance officers. Drawing from both George Washington University’s Department of Health Policy in the School of Public Health and Health Services and leading healthcare law firms, the program offered education in healthcare laws and regulations as well as tools and strategies for creating effective corporate compliance programs. Mr. White educated students about the federal False Claims Act and other anti-fraud laws. Mr. White has lectured at George Washington University for the past eight semesters. Partner Jeb White spoke at a Knowledge Congress webinar entitled, “False Claims Act: Understanding the Law & Defending Whistleblower Claims.” This advanced legal discussion, which took place on August 18, 2010 featured some of the nation’s leading False Claims Act experts. Mr. White, who testified before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee in support of the recent False Claims Act amendments, will explain the important legal options and arguments now available to qui tam whistleblowers. Partner Jeb White spoke at an American Law Institute-American Bar Association webinar entitled, “The Federal False Claims Act.” This panel discussion, which took place on July 20, 2010, featured a panel of “nationally recognized False Claims Act practitioners.” Mr. White discussed the issues addressed by the recent False Claims Act amendments, and the impact these landmark amendments will have on future qui tam actions. Nolan & Auerbach, P.A. Partner Jeb White spoke on the opening panel at the American Bar Association’s National Institute on False Claims Act Qui Tam Enforcement. This June 3, 2010 panel discussion, “The Future of the False Claims Act,” highlighted the legal and political undercurrents that led to the recent False Claims Act amendments. Mr. White, who successfully led the efforts to amend the False Claims Act, joined nationally recognized experts from the U.S. Justice Department and the defense bar to discuss the real-world implications of the newly-revised fraud-fighting law.
