Missouri Qui Tam Whistleblower Case

In January 2001, the former president of Abbott Ambulance, Inc. agreed to pay
$325,000.00 to settle a Federal qui tam lawsuit filed in Missouri, that alleged
the former president falsified Missouri Ambulance Reporting Forms and Medicare
Ambulance Reporting Forms to optimize reimbursement to the company.
In August 2000, Abbott Ambulance agreed to pay the government
$5.4 million to settle a Federal qui tam lawsuit filed
in Missouri, that alleged the company billed Medicare
for unnecessary transports and other unallowable trips
to and from physicians' offices. |
The
purpose of the Qui tam provisions of the Federal False
Claims Act is to encourage private individuals who are
aware of
fraud
being perpetrated against the government to bring such
information forward.
