New Jersey Qui Tam Whistleblower Case Example:
In December 2000, Carrier Clinic agreed pay $1.94 million to settle a Federal qui tam lawsuit filed in New Jersey, that alleged the clinic defrauded Medicare through upcoding, unbundling, and usage of unlicensed personnel.

In February 2000, the Medical Center at Princeton agreed to pay the government $2.1 million to settle a Federal qui tam lawsuit filed in New Jersey, that alleged the medical center violated Medicare regulations in its billings for outpatient procedures.

The purpose of the Qui tam provisions of the Federal False Claims Act is to encourage private individuals who are aware of fraud being perpetrated against the government to bring such information forward.
