Qui Tam Whistleblower Case Example:
In January, 2003, Maury Regional Hospital agreed to
pay $2 million to settle allegations that it upcoded
diagnosis codes to increase reimbursement.
In December 2000, Renal Care Group and its subsidiary
agreed to pay $1.98 million to settle a Federal qui
tam lawsuit, filed in Tennessee that alleged the company
billed Medicare for medically unnecessary rental tests.
In May 2000, Community Health Systems agreed to pay $31
million to settle a Federal qui tam lawsuit, that alleged
the company submitted false claims involving upcoding
to Medicare, Medicaid and TriCare.
