Hospice Fraud

providers are paid daily per diem amounts to care for patients with terminal illnesses. Fraud issues include: whether the hospice is billing for services at the correct level of care, and whether arrangements with nursing facilities to provide services involves kickbacks. Fraud issues also include false claims by the hospice provider for billing drugs under Part D, which are already included in the per diem rate. This is one example of “unbundling.”
